Medical secretaries perform the duties needed to make a medical office run smoothly. Some of these tasks involve organizing patients' medical records and ordering supplies. Doctors speak into a tape recorder to keep track of information about a patient. It is the medical secretary's job to listen to the recording and type what the doctor said. In order to do this well, they need to know medical terms. They also bill insurance companies and keep track of doctor's schedules.
